Crazy Mountain Runaround

Distance and time:   187 miles, about three hours
Except for the short stretch of I-90, this is one lonely loop.   Get to this one from Great Falls, down Highway 89 (over Kings Hill), or from either Bozeman or Billings via I-90.   On the worst day there will be NO traffic.   The Crazy Mountains are in the center of the loop.  They're tall, often snow covered, and almost roadless.   There are countless places to stop and gaze, across miles of sagebrush, over valleys filled with beaver dams, or over a herd of Angus growing into steaks.   The only reason you won't see countless deer is if you're asleep.   Harlowtown has a golf course and a hardware store that actually carries METRIC Allen bolts (don't ask me how I know).   Whatever you do, stop for dinner at The Grand Hotel in Big Timber.   It's a memorable Bed and Breakfast and as fine a restaurant as you will ever enjoy.
